New for Tableau: Login-Based License Management (LBLM)

In the coming weeks, Northeastern will upgrade its Tableau end-user license experience by enabling Login-Based License Management (LBLM).

This feature of Tableau allows those who have a Creator license (composed of Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep Builder) to have their license verified by our Tableau Server. This means you’ll no longer need to enter that lengthy license key on your desktop Tableau software!  To provision licenses to end users, we’ll simply assign a Creator license role on the Tableau Server to our Tableau end users. As a Creator user, you will use your Server login credentials to activate your instance of Tableau Desktop and Prep Builder on your local machine. No more individual product keys needed!  LBLM will also allow us to monitor license usage, which will help us save money on Creator licenses that are no longer being used, such as when someone changes positions or leaves the university.

If you are a Tableau Creator user, we will reach out to you directly with a few simple steps that you will need to perform to make the switch. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to implementation.
